Resurrection Scripture Verses

What does the Bible say…also see scriptures on what happens after death and going to heaven.

Job 14:10-14 v. 10 “But man dies and is laid low; He breathes his last and is no more.”

v. 12 “…so man lies down and does not rise; until the heavens are no more men will not wake or be roused from their sleep…

v. 14If a man dies will he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait for my renewal (resurrection) to come.”

Ezekiel 37:9, 12-14 “…’This is what the sovereign Lord says: Come into the four winds, O breath, and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’”

v.12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: O my people, I am going to open up your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’”

Daniel 12:2-3 “Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will arise, some to everlasting life, some to everlasting shame and contempt.”

Matthew 12:40 “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

Matthew 16:21b “…he (Jesus) must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”

Matthew 17:23 “They will kill him (Jesus) and on the third day he will be raised to life.”

Matthew 20:18b-19 “They will condemn him (Jesus) to death and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life.”

Note: Jesus’ death and resurrection is our model. He did not go to heaven upon his death.

Matthew 22:23, Mark 12:23, Luke 20:27 (MARRIAGE AT THE RESURRECTION)

Note: Jesus taught about the “next life” starting at the Resurrection.

Matthew 27:52 “The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.”

Note: The holy people did not go to heaven when they died.

Matthew 27:62-63 “The next day, the one after Preparation Day (Passover/1st day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread) the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. “sir,’ they said, ‘we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said ‘After three days I will rise again.’”

Mark 8:31 “He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the Law, and that he must be killed and after three days, rise again.”

Luke 9:22 “And he said ‘The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and teachers of the Law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”

Luke 24:45 “Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures. He told them, ‘This is what is written; The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day.”
