Sabbath Scriptures

Genesis 2:2-3—God rests and blesses the seventh day of the week.

Exodus 16:23-29—The Sabbath law was set up before Moses received the 10 commandments.

Exodus 20:8-11—The Sabbath is one of God’s 10 commandments.  We are not to work on this day.

Exodus 31:12-17—The Sabbath is a sign between God and the Israelites (Christian’s are spiritual Israelites—Romans 9:6-8—Galatians 4:28).  It signifies God’s part in creation because He rested after He finished.

Leviticus 23:3—Evidence that we should meet together for worship on the Sabbath.

Leviticus 23:32—Evidence that the Sabbath was from sunset to sunset.

II Kings 11: 5, 9—A certain type of security duty seems to be permitted on the Sabbath.

I Chronicles 9:32—Preparing the showbread is permitted on the Sabbath.

Nehemiah 10:31—The Sabbath was not a shopping day.

Nehemiah 13:15-21—Regular business was not conducted on the Sabbath.

Isaiah 58:13—We need to focus on God and His way on the Sabbath, not our way.

Isaiah 66:23—The Sabbath will be kept when God returns to the earth.

Matthew 12:1-12—Jesus explains that doing good deeds on the Sabbath was not

breaking the Sabbath command.

Luke 4:16—It was Jesus custom to meet with other believers on the Sabbath.

Luke 13:10-16—Doing good is permitted on the Sabbath.

Acts 13:14—The disciples continued to go to worship on the Sabbath after Jesus had died.

Acts 18:4—Paul taught Jews and Gentiles in the synagogue on the Sabbath.

Colossians 2:16—The Colossian Christian’s appear to be keeping the Sabbath years after the death of Jesus.

Hebrews 4:9-–This scripture tells us there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
